Learn moreProudly serving the La Jolla community
La Jolla's academic and medical communities attract physicians, researchers, students, executives, and entrepreneurs from around the world. High-achieving environments bring their own pressures: long hours, competition, perfectionism, and chronic stress. For some, alcohol or medications gradually shift from an occasional coping tool into a dependence that is hard to walk back alone.
Addiction in professional communities often stays hidden the longest, because the people struggling are also the people used to holding everything together. Asking for help is not a career-ending admission. It is the first step toward getting your life back.
Care that respects your intelligence and your privacy
People from medical, academic, and professional backgrounds often want to understand the why behind their treatment. We welcome that. Our clinical team explains the reasoning behind every recommendation, uses established, evidence-based therapies, and treats co-occurring anxiety, depression, and trauma alongside the addiction itself.
Confidentiality is fundamental to our care. Your treatment is your business, and we protect it accordingly.
Treatment programs for La Jolla residents
Every person entering treatment receives a thorough clinical assessment so we can recommend the level of care that actually fits. Depending on your needs, that may be residential treatment in a structured, home-like setting, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) with intensive day treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that flexes around work, school, or family, or integrated dual diagnosis care when a mental health condition is part of the picture.
Evidence-based therapies, chosen for you
Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Depending on each person's needs, care may include the therapies below, and every plan evolves as recovery progresses.

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept insurance?
PMR may work with PPO and POS plans that include authorized out-of-network benefits. We can explain benefits information and possible next steps based on your plan and recommended level of care. We do not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal. PMR is an in-network provider for TRICARE and TriWest. Eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, and clinical criteria vary by plan and must be verified before admission. Coverage, authorization, admission, placement, and payment are not guaranteed.
How quickly can someone be admitted?
In many cases, same-day or next-day assessments are available depending on clinical needs and program availability. The fastest way to find out is to call or text us.
Do you treat alcohol addiction?
Yes. We treat alcohol use disorder along with opioid, stimulant, prescription medication, and many other substance use disorders, from detox through residential, PHP, IOP, and continuing care.
Do you treat mental health conditions?
Yes, when they occur alongside a substance use disorder. Our dual diagnosis approach treats addiction and co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma together, because treating one without the other leaves people vulnerable to relapse.
Can family members participate?
Yes. Family involvement is encouraged whenever it is clinically appropriate, through family therapy, education, and ongoing communication with the treatment team. Recovery is often strongest when families heal together.
How long does treatment last?
Every treatment plan is individualized. Length of stay depends on clinical recommendations, your progress, and your personal recovery goals. Many people step down through levels of care over several months rather than finishing all at once.
Is treatment confidential?
Yes. Protecting your privacy is one of our highest priorities. Your information is protected by federal privacy law, and we do not share anything about your care without your written permission.
What if I'm not sure which level of care I need?
That is exactly what the first conversation is for. We will talk through what is going on, complete a confidential assessment, and recommend the level of care that fits your situation. No script, no pressure.
