Learn moreA trusted resource for the Carlsbad community
Carlsbad is one of North County San Diego's most vibrant communities. Known for its beautiful coastline, family-friendly neighborhoods, excellent schools, thriving biotech industry, and active outdoor lifestyle, it attracts professionals, entrepreneurs, healthcare workers, retirees, and young families alike.
While Carlsbad offers an exceptional quality of life, no community is immune to addiction or mental health struggles. Alcohol dependence, prescription medication misuse, opioid addiction, stimulant use, anxiety, depression, and unresolved trauma affect people from every profession, age group, and background. Many struggle silently for months or years before asking for help. We understand how difficult that first call can be, and we work to make the process as supportive and straightforward as possible.
Addiction can affect anyone
Addiction rarely looks the way people expect. It may be the successful executive whose drinking has gradually increased after years of chronic stress. It may be a college student experimenting with stimulants or prescription medications. It may be a parent who began taking pain medication after surgery and found it increasingly difficult to stop. It may be someone quietly battling anxiety, depression, or trauma while trying to keep up the appearance that everything is fine.
Substance use disorders are medical conditions, not moral failures, and effective treatment addresses far more than the substance alone. Our goal is not simply to help clients stop using. It is to help them build healthier, more meaningful, and more connected lives.
Treatment programs for Carlsbad residents
Every person entering treatment receives a thorough clinical assessment so we can recommend the level of care that actually fits. Depending on your needs, that may be residential treatment in a structured, home-like setting, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) with intensive day treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that flexes around work, school, or family, or integrated dual diagnosis care when a mental health condition is part of the picture.
Evidence-based therapies, chosen for you
Treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Depending on each person's needs, care may include the therapies below, and every plan evolves as recovery progresses.

Learn moreClose to home for Carlsbad residents
Our outpatient programs, including PHP, IOP, outpatient detox, and MAT, are located right in Carlsbad, and our detox and residential home is in nearby San Marcos. Most Carlsbad residents can reach us in roughly 15 to 20 minutes, which makes it easier for loved ones to join family sessions and stay connected throughout treatment.
Why Carlsbad families choose Present Moments Recovery
Families often tell us they appreciate our personalized approach. Unlike larger treatment centers where individuals can feel like just another number, Present Moments Recovery intentionally stays small so every client receives individualized attention, thoughtful treatment planning, and ongoing support from a clinical team that knows them by name.
Recovery is personal. Treatment should be too.
Begin with one conversation
Whether you're seeking help for yourself or someone you love, recovery begins with a single conversation. Call or Text (619) 363-4767. No pressure, just a conversation about what's going on and what could help.
Frequently asked questions
Do you accept insurance?
PMR may work with PPO and POS plans that include authorized out-of-network benefits. We can explain benefits information and possible next steps based on your plan and recommended level of care. We do not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal. PMR is an in-network provider for TRICARE and TriWest. Eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, and clinical criteria vary by plan and must be verified before admission. Coverage, authorization, admission, placement, and payment are not guaranteed.
How quickly can someone be admitted?
In many cases, same-day or next-day assessments are available depending on clinical needs and program availability. The fastest way to find out is to call or text us.
Do you treat alcohol addiction?
Yes. We treat alcohol use disorder along with opioid, stimulant, prescription medication, and many other substance use disorders, from detox through residential, PHP, IOP, and continuing care.
Do you treat mental health conditions?
Yes, when they occur alongside a substance use disorder. Our dual diagnosis approach treats addiction and co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma together, because treating one without the other leaves people vulnerable to relapse.
Can family members participate?
Yes. Family involvement is encouraged whenever it is clinically appropriate, through family therapy, education, and ongoing communication with the treatment team. Recovery is often strongest when families heal together.
How long does treatment last?
Every treatment plan is individualized. Length of stay depends on clinical recommendations, your progress, and your personal recovery goals. Many people step down through levels of care over several months rather than finishing all at once.
Is treatment confidential?
Yes. Protecting your privacy is one of our highest priorities. Your information is protected by federal privacy law, and we do not share anything about your care without your written permission.
What if I'm not sure which level of care I need?
That is exactly what the first conversation is for. We will talk through what is going on, complete a confidential assessment, and recommend the level of care that fits your situation. No script, no pressure.
