Admissions

How Do I Admit Someone to Rehab?

Deciding to seek treatment can feel overwhelming, especially when you don't know what the process looks like. Here is how it actually works.

A real person answers, and the same team carries you through

Families often reach a point where they know something must change, but they are unsure what to do next. They are asking simple, urgent questions: How do we get someone into rehab? How fast can treatment start? What happens during the first phone call? At Present Moments Recovery, admissions are built to be simple and supportive, so people feel safe enough to take the first step. For most families, that begins with a conversation.

The first phone call is different here

When you call Present Moments Recovery, Mark or another PMR team member listens to what is happening and answers your questions without pressure. A client, family member, hospital, or referral source may begin the conversation, even when the person who may need care is not present.

During that first conversation, we may ask for basic information about the current situation, urgency, treatment needs, insurance or private-pay questions, and possible next steps. This is an initial pre-screening. It is not a diagnosis, medical assessment, or guarantee of admission.

Finding the right level of care

If PMR may be a fit, a qualified clinician completes the appropriate assessment. The assessment is separate from the first pre-screening. Clinical need, not insurance alone, guides the recommended level of care.

The recommended next step may be a PMR program, a medical or psychiatric evaluation, hospital or emergency care, another provider, or a community resource. Not every caller will be admitted, and PMR is not the right fit for every person.

Insurance verification

Insurance verification is free, confidential, and carries no obligation to enter treatment. We explain benefits information received from the insurer. Insurer timing varies, and verification does not guarantee coverage, authorization, payment, admission, placement, or a particular program. For private-pay admissions, PMR discusses the expected individualized cost and approved payment arrangement before admission.

How quickly treatment can begin

Timing and availability vary. A benefits check, pre-screening, or assessment does not by itself mean that someone has been admitted. Admission preparation begins only after PMR determines that admission is appropriate. The team then explains the next practical steps.

Arriving at treatment

When admission is appropriate, the team provides current arrival instructions and explains what to expect. Practical details can vary, so clients and families should follow the instructions PMR gives them before arrival.

Why the admissions process matters

The first step into recovery can feel intimidating. It should never feel like a business transaction. It should feel like the beginning of a conversation about healing. That is why we focus on:

  • Listening to the person's story
  • Understanding their fears and concerns
  • Helping families feel supported
  • Explaining the difference between pre-screening, assessment, and admission

The beauty of our Continuum of Care model is a consistent treatment team from the beginning of the journey until the client is ready to fly solo. Clients are able to establish trust with their primary counselor, while the team supports them from the first day of care through their transition into the next appropriate stage of recovery.

You do not have to have it all figured out

Many families start with a phone call where we listen to what is happening and explain possible next steps. This first conversation is a pre-screening, not a clinical assessment or promise of admission. Our phone line is answered seven days a week, from 8:00 AM–9:00 PM PT. Outside those hours, leave a message or send a text and we will respond as soon as possible. If you need to speak with someone now, call or text (619) 363-4767.
